Choosing attachments for this machine
The Wacker Neuson ET18 is a 1.8-tonne machine that reaches where bigger units cannot, behind houses, through gates and into basements. On a machine this light the attachment weight matters most, so stick to narrow cable buckets, a light grading bucket and a compact auger drive the S30 hitch can carry at full reach.
Common jobs for the Wacker Neuson ET18
The Wacker Neuson ET18 is a 1.8-tonne machine that reaches where bigger units stop outside. With the track retracted it gets through a normal gate, behind the house and down into a basement. On Swedish jobs that means garden work, drainage around the foundation and cable digging on plots where there is no room to slew anything larger.
On a residential plot the ET18 digs narrow trenches for drainage and cable, lifts soil away by a deck and grades ahead of paving. It works close to hedges, walls and house facades without you having to clear everything around it. It is the size that makes the job possible at all on tight plots.
On a machine this light the attachment weight matters most. The first thing you think about when you look for attachments for the ET18 is not how big but how light. A narrow cable bucket, a small grading bucket and a small auger drive are what you use most, and the machine has to carry all of it at full reach.
Buckets and attachments that fit the ET18
For a 1.8-tonne machine you choose a narrow digging bucket for trench and drainage and a wider grading bucket for fine work and levelling. On this machine it is about narrow buckets that get down into tight trenches, not about volume. A cable bucket around 30 centimetres is often what you use most.
A small sorting grapple can be run on the ET18 when you move stone or clear brush and roots, but keep the weight down. On a machine this light the grapple sits steady only if you do not reach out too far with a heavy load. Remember that the load plus the grapple weight has to stay within what the machine can manage.
All attachments run on the S30 hitch, the smallest quick hitch in the range. With the same hitch on buckets and grapple you swap quickly without leaving the cab, which saves time when you switch between digging a trench and grading on the same plot.
Auger drive and light attachments for the ET18
On a 1.8-tonne machine an auger drive is often more useful than a breaker. It takes post holes, planting pits and holes for footing piles when you put up a fence or a deck. The drive is the motor that rotates, the auger bit is the part that sits in it, and you choose the bit size by the hole you need.
A hydraulic breaker on this weight is always a light breaker, and you run it only when you really have to. The oil flow on a mini machine is limited, so it is the flow and not the weight that decides what the ET18 handles. Always check that the flow is enough before you put a breaker on it.
The most important thing on a machine this small is not to overload it. A heavy attachment far out makes the ET18 unstable fast, and the most common mistake is fitting an attachment the machine cannot really carry at full reach. Stick to light attachments so the machine works safely.
S30 quick hitch and fit
The Wacker Neuson ET18 runs an S30 hitch, the smallest coupler and the standard for the lightest mini excavators. Check the attachment is listed for S30 before you buy, a hitch in the wrong size will not fit. In this class it is the hitch that ties your small attachment set together.
A tiltrotator does not really belong on a 1.8-tonne machine. It adds weight and cost the machine does not carry well, and the gain is small on a machine this light. Put the money into a narrow cable bucket and a grading bucket you actually use every day instead.
What to watch
Heavy attachments far out from the machine make a mini excavator unstable. Stay within its lift capacity.
