How to fit an auger bit to your drive: S4, S5 and drive tools
The bit fits the output shaft of the drive and is held by one pin. Which bit you need depends on the drive, not on the machine. S4 and S5 here are shaft series, not hitch sizes.

Short answer
Drives A/G2000 to A/G4500 take S4 bits (65 mm shaft). A/G5500 and A/G8000 take S5 bits (75 mm shaft). The manual prints S5 / S6 for A/G12000 and A/G25000, so ask us which bit fits your article before you order. Stand the bit upright, lower the drive onto it, line up the pin holes, insert the drive pin and secure it with the linch pin.
Step 1: which series does your drive take?
| Drive | Shaft | Bit series | Bit diameter (mm) |
|---|---|---|---|
| A/G2000 | 65 mm | S4 | 100 to 400 |
| A/G2500 | 65 mm | S4 | 100 to 500 |
| A/G3500 | 65 mm | S4 | 100 to 750 |
| A/G4500 | 65 mm | S4 | 100 to 900 |
| A/G5500 | 75 mm | S5 | 150 to 750 |
| A/G8000 | 75 mm | S5 | 150 to 900 |
| A/G12000 | 75 mm | S5 / S6 | 150 to 900 |
| A/G25000 | 75 mm | S5 / S6 | 150 to 1200 |
Auger drive manual, specification page 9A. A = AWA, G = GORE. S4 bits are 1200 mm long and S5 bits 1500 mm; the manual prints 1500 / 1750 for the S5 / S6 drives.
Extensions follow the same series as the bit: S4 with S4, S5 with S5. The pins and clips for S4 and for S5 are separate articles; pick the pair for your series. Do not confuse these with the hitch sizes S40 and S50 (see how to fit an attachment hitch).
Step 2: fit the bit
From the auger drive manual, page 18:
- Work in pairs: two skilled operators whenever drive parts are fitted or removed. Machine on flat ground, hand brake on, hydraulic circuit locked out, engine off.
- Check that the bit is the correct model and type for the drive.
- Make sure the bit connections are clean.
- Stand the bit in its vertical working position and support it so it cannot fall over.
- Position the drive over the bit and align the pin holes.
- Lower the drive onto the bit.
- Locate the auger drive pin.
- Secure the pin with the linch pin.
Tools that go on the drive shaft
Stump planers, log splitters and mixer bowls take the same shaft as a bit. Only the combinations below are confirmed. For any other, ask us with your drive model before you order.
| Tool | Takes the shaft of | Confirmed on |
|---|---|---|
| Stump planer S4-250 | S4 drives (65 mm) | A/G2500 to A/G4500 |
| Stump planer 350 SQ | S5 drives (75 mm) | S5 class drives |
| Log splitter S4 | S4 drives (65 mm) | S4 class drives |
| Log splitter S5 | S5 drives (75 mm) | S5 class drives |
| Stump planer S4-350, mixer bowl | Not confirmed | Ask us before you order |
